VRR Runs Weekend of 5/9-11

Hope you all had a good Mother's Day weekend!

We have 9 people in our group and are well on our way to reaching 130 (or 150) miles for the month of May. Last weekend we racked up 61.51 miles.

How did we do this weekend?

I covered 13.1 miles in 2:30 as part of a half iron tri on Saturday. Ran into some bad luck and made a couple mistakes that led to a very slow time. Live and learn!!

My longest run of the weekend was 6.03 miles (58:23) in the humidity of New Port Richey.

Although I got NO running in this weekend :( We did raise over $2000 for my Avon Walk for Breast Cancer this weekend. Succesful weekend for me. I am going for a 8 mile walk today and a 6 mile run tomorrow. got a 5k in less than 3 weeks!

Count me in for 3.5 miles last friday 5/9. BTW, i need some advice on runners trots. Do we have any sufferers in our group, or am I the chosen one who is plagued with them after a hard run? Not often, but right after I finish a run where i sprint the last 1/4 or 1/2 mile. Where i finish my run at full speed for as long as i can go.

Count me in for 10 miles on Saturday. Our group started at 6:00am, and it was already hot & humid. I know this doesn't count, but I biked 14.8 on Sunday. I'll be ready for Simply Stu next year. Congratulations to everyone!

WV Momma - I haven't had issues for a long time, but years ago I used to have terrible cramping and such after vigorous exercise. I had eschemic colitis. It went away on its own, but I think I later found that a change in diet was what probably took care of it. You might consider getting checked for food allergies. Just a thought.

WV Momma - I had a bad experience with RT because of an unfamiliar sports drink I had during a race. In researching why that drink may have caused me problems I found out that it's main sweetener was fructose, a common cause of GI issues. I now avoid sports drinks that have high fructose content, and also OJ and lots of fruit (just one banana sometimes) in the mornings before I run.

So like Chris suggested, try making a change to what you eat/drink before and during your runs to see if that helps.

A 2+2+6=10 for me. I got out everyday even if it was for a bit!

Akshaye, Great to hear you got out to run every day over the weekend! But we're only counting one run as the group run if anyone runs more than once over a weekend, which I know some of us do. I will happily count your longest one, the 6-miler :-)

Thanks for posting your miles!

Cewtwo, marathonchris, and Shirleyperley, thanks SO MUCH for your advice about RT! after readying your suggestions and the articles, I finally have something to do about it. I realized i've experienced RT from strenuous running since high school -- this is not a new issue but maybe i can learn to avoid it. LOVE you guys!

Hi Shirley,

Thank you for responding to my blog, marathonchris (my sister) totally motivated me to start this again) I use to run roughly 28 miles a week before I loved to Connecticut 4 years ago.( I lived in Bronx) Since than I've had some obsticles (surgeries ect... ) that prevented me from running but now I'm getting into again. It has always been my dream to do the NYC marathon since I was in high school. Hopefully we will beable to do that in the next couple of years. Thank you for all your encouragement, it keeps me motivated and excited.
