New Running Mate & Run the World Campaign!

Some of you have already met my sister Jade Lady. I'm happy to announce that she's also now our newest running mate!

Also, there's a new Run the World Campaign being launched this week by one of the Team Evotri members. This one's really simple and no swimming is required ;-)

Just commit to running at least once a week for 4 months with a group. In our case, we'd be a virtual group. We'd just run once a week on our own and the only constraint will be that the run is done sometime over a weekend, say, Friday, Saturday or Sunday. We'd do this starting this weekend and go through the end of July. The goal is simply consistency, running at least once over a weekend for 4 months and being held accountable to others for it :-)

Anyone interested in being a part of this campaign?

Jade Lady and me, ShirleyPerly, are in. If we can get at least 2-4 others to do it, we could shoot for a 100 miles per month group run goal, just as an extra incentive, which averages out to 4-6 miles per person. I'd be posting something here every Monday so we could report our group run mileage results to see if we made it. Of course, you are welcome to run more than 4-6 miles and more often than once over a weekend but just one will count as the group run.

For those who are injured right now and unable to run, I certainly don't expect you to participate but you are more than welcome to join us when you're able to!

Just like the statuesque woman in the WaMu commercial says - "I'm all over it!"

Count me in!

Great! With 4 of us so far, that means 6.25 miles for our group runs on average *if* we want to shoot for the 100 mi/month goal.

Is that OK with everyone? We could also make it a time goal instead, either monthly or weekly.

Anyone else interested?

I'm in. Of course, there will be the whole coordinating my travel from LA thing.

Then, the torn meniscus.

All I know about marathons is this. Dating is a marathon.

Thanks for the advice on the crazy coordinator. We are indeed getting a friend (lawyer) to write up a letter and at least take it as far as getting a date in small claims court.

OK, we are now signed up as Virtual Runners Rock or VRR. Thanks Maddy for the awesome group name suggestion.

Runs start this weekend and we are gonna shoot for 100 miles/month. Good luck and be ready to post your group run miles on Monday!!

I'm in! I take Saturday as a day of rest, but I do my long runs on Sundays.

Now how does it work?

For the virtual group run, all you have to do is run sometime Friday, Saturday or Sunday and then report your miles on the RunningMates blog when I ask for them on Monday. We are shooting for 100 miles so with 4 people we were trying to run 6.25 miles each. But now with 5 people, we can average 5 miles each.

You can run more than 5-6 miles and you can run more than once a weekend too. Just count one of those as the group run so in case someone misses a run for some reason, we can still have a good chance of making our monthly 100-mile goal.

Let me know if you have any questions. Look forward to your next blog post!

Oh this sounds like so much fun. I decided not to re-up my half marathon class but love the "group" aspect of finding out how everyone else is doing. Can I join too.

Hi TinaGirl,

Yes, you certainly may join us! I'll mention you in my next post here on Monday, 5/5, calling for miles run the weekend of 5/2-4. There's now a total of 7 of us and it's probably a good time to recap everyone on the team. If you have any questions, let me know. Otherwise, welcome aboard!!
