2008 Group Marathon Shout Out!

Ok peeps, any chance we can all get together somewhere in the fall for a group marathon? I would be very interested. I could probably swing anywhere in the US, although I wouldn't want to do anyplace with really warm temps.

Some options might be:
Chicago - October
Des Moines - October
Denver - October
Washington DC - October
Twin Cities - October
San Fransisco - October
Philly - November
Las Vegas - December
Memphis - December
Kiawah Island - December

Thoughts?

Hey there Melisa - you are on the ball! I would consider any one of those - have to wedge it past the committee but would move most things to get there.. Any advice? Have only run Chicago out of that lot...

We're still debating about the New Hampshire Reach the Beach 200-mile relay in September as well, I think. I'd be up for the Twin Cities marathon in October.

Minneapolis/St. Paul is a great area with lots of good karma and very pro-outdoors, so I expect they'd do a nice job with the marathon.

I am not sure we can do the relay and a marathon in the fall- so we should probably pic as a group.

If a marathon, I know DC is a great race...I am open to trying a different race.

Unfortunately, Fall is the busiest time for me race-wise so I won't be able to do anything more :-(

I hope some of you will be able to do this!

All of them look great - EXCEPT MEMPHIS. Ha!

I just LOVE this group!!!

Can I add Disney January 2009 to the list of possibilities?

Other than that option, I would vote for Philly.

Form a seven runner team and do the DeCelle Memorial relay around Lake Tahoe in June. 72 miles through two states, seven 8.3 mile to 12.6 mile legs, at least two with 3 or 4 mile straight uphill stretches (legs 2 and 6--watch out!), one straight downhill stretch (leg 3--grab it!), everyone else spends the day in a support van chasing around the Lake when not on a leg--you'll never forget it. It ain't a marathon but it's different!

I'd like to state for the record that I'd do Memphis again in a heartbeat if it meant getting to run with you awesome folks!

Well, I guess we need to vote on a race to do. A relay sounds like a great way to get to know a group of runners. A marathon is always an adventure.

And Disney - well, I plan to do the Goofy Race and a Half (I think Maddy does too). You run a half marathon on Saturday and the full on Sunday. We might get a larger "group" to include some half marathoners as well as marathoners or goofy folks - at the most magical place on earth. I would vote for this option as well.

If anyone knows how to set up a survey on this blog, we can take a vote. I think we would need to vote on:

Summer relay (DeCelle)
Fall relay (Reach the Beach)
October marathon (Chicago, Des Moines, Denver, DC, San Francisco)
December marathon (Las Vegas, Memphis, Kiawah Island)
January marathon (Disney - there are other races that month like Miami, Houston or Phoenix I think)

If we pick by event type and time of year, then we can pick a particular race.

Hi everyone, what better to do from your sickbed than to plan a race this year? I've been trying to add a poll but I think Chris / Shirley need to do this because I'm not able to change the layout for the blog.. I'm most keen on an October-ish marathon and Chicago would be easy as I have accomodation there. Would be up for twin cities or Philly as well though. Or Memphis. Never been to Graceland... Whilst Disney sounds wonderful I just won't be able to do that one without the family and I think that might just break the bank.. I'm intending to slip this little marathon trip in without really alerting the accountants...

Hey everyone,

I'm a bit late in getting to the fall marathon party, but I would put a vote in for Baltimore in October. The race organizers do a great job and it's a really nice city to run in. Plus you get to finish on the field in Camden Yard, home of the Orioles Baseball team. How cool is that? Just my $.02...
